PARKS ADVISORY COMMITTEE
PURPOSE The purpose of the Parks Advisory Committee is to recommend advice and policies to staff and the City Council concerning the development, maintenance, and improvement of parks, trails and open space planning and implementation. The Committee also represents the citizens of Sutherlin and as such, serve as community ambassadors
General functions and specific responsibilities of the Parks Advisory Committee are as follows:
To determine and implement methods of public support, involvement, and funding for parks, facilities, trails and open spaces
To provide input and recommendations that will allow the City to produce and maintain safe, high quality parks, trails, open space areas and recreational opportunities
To represent the citizens of Sutherlin by serving as a liaison between the public and the City Council
To provide opportunities for public involvement regarding parks, including park rules and regulations
To suggest priorities for the acquisition of land and/or facilities
To provide input for comprehensive parks and trails planning
To provide input concerning concessions at park facilities
Other matters that the mayor or city council, or Community Development Director may refer to the parks and recreation commission for its consideration and recommendation
The Parks Advisory Committee is appointed by the City Council. The committee consists of 7 members who reside and vote within the City of Sutherlin, and includes a City Council Member who serves as the Chair.
Members of the Committee are appointed for terms of two years which commence after the first Council Meeting in January and expire on December 31st of the appropriate calendar year, unless a shorter term is necessary to fill a vacancy. Members must reside and be registered to vote in the City of Sutherlin at the time of the appointment and throughout term in office.
